The invention expands the scope of potential application for L-peptide that binds to various types of cancer cells but not normal cells. One aspect of this invention is a cancer diagnostic method. The discovery demonstrates that L-peptide can be used for targeted delivery of radio-isotope for tumor imaging and radiotheraphy of cancers. Another aspect of this invention is a method for delivering a chemotherapeutic drugs (i.e., an imaging molecule or an anti-cancer drug) to a wide spectrum of cancer. This invention also features a method of treating cancer (e.g., breast cancer) by administering to a subject in need of the treatment an effective amount of a complex containing an L-peptide conjugated with an anti-cancer drug.
